Community Electric Vehicle Hire Scheme Launched in Bro Ffestiniog and Penrhyndeudraeth areas!

Innovative social enterprise Y Dref Werdd, has received funding from Welsh Government to purchase two seven seater electric vehicles that will be available for car rental in the communities of Bro Ffestiniog, Penrhyndeudraeth and surrounding villages in Gwynedd, North Wales.Y Dref Werdd, in collabration with Cwmni Bro Ffestiniog, were successful in securing the grant. This has enabled them to buy two Nissan ENV 200’s, one of which will be located in Blaenau Ffestiniog, and the other at Siop y Garreg in Llanfrothen. This new scheme will build on other exciting projects initiated through the Bro Ffestiniog network, a network that aims to promote cooperative learning and action within our communities, as we move towards a more sustainable future, both economically, environmentally and socially.

The scheme

There have been two newly installed charging pod points in the area; One is located at Siop y Garreg in Llanfrothen, the other at the back of Siop Antur Stiniog in the centre of Blaenau Ffestiniog.Community groups and organisations, businesess, families and individuals can hire the car for any purpose on a first come first serve basis! Are you interested in hiring one? Maybe the the weekend, day or even by the hour?A Sustainable weekend, a family day out, or even an hour or two car share to get to the shops? The scheme is also to promote sustainable and community transport and raise awareness of a potential establishment car-share scheme in the area.

The Vehicles

The two seven-seater ENV 200’s fully electric cars also have space for wheelchair access, which acts like a seat when not in use. Their average range when fully charged is between 130-150 miles, which is perfect for rural Gwynedd, depending on driving styles and conditions. Leaving the vehicle on eco mode will ensure further distances can be reached.
