Warrington Car Club vehicle on the move!
March 14th, 2025
Previously located at the Time Square multi-storey car park, one of the electric-vehicles-for-hire has now been moved to Winwick Street. This strategic location is situated near key transport hubs, including the local bus interchange, Warrington Central train station, and the new Warrington Cycle Hub.
The relocation aims to improve the Car Club’s accessibility and integration with other transport modes and aligns with the Warrington Town Centre Masterplan in delivering sustainable transport initiatives across Warrington.
Additionally, the new location directly serves the recently opened ‘The Steelworks’ development on John Street, which has a high number of residents with no parking available.
Launched in 2022, Warrington Car Club is delivered by the council in partnership with Co Wheels. It offers residents the opportunity to hire one of two MG4 Electric Vehicles on a convenient, pay-as-you-go basis. By joining the Car Club, individuals can access eco-friendly transport on an hourly basis, providing a flexible and environmentally conscious alternative to traditional car ownership.
The scheme not only supports the council’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions but also responds to the increasing trend of town centre living. Members can potentially save up to £1,000 annually on motoring expenses.
Warrington Borough Council Leader and cabinet member for transport, Cllr Hans Mundry, said:
“We want to make sure our Car Club is as accessible as possible for everyone, and the relocation of one of our vehicles supports these plans. Winwick Street, with its proximity to key transport links and town centre accommodation, is a fantastic location, enabling members to seamlessly combine Car Club usage with their existing travel plans.
It’s about giving people an alternative to car ownership, and providing new, sustainable transport options for local people - which is a key priority of our town centre plan.”
Richard Falconer, Head of Mobility at Co Wheels, added
“We’re always looking for ways to make car sharing as convenient as possible for our members. Moving one of our vehicles to Winwick Street places it even closer to the train station and key transport links, making it easier for members to integrate car club use with their journeys.
We’re committed to providing accessible, sustainable transport options and we’re confident this new location will be a great benefit to both existing and new users in Warrington.”
Warrington’s other Car Club vehicle will remain at its current home, and is still available for pick-up at its usual, specially designated bay in Time Square multi-storey car park.
