OVER 60 PERCENT OF PEOPLE IN THE NORTH EAST WANT TO RECONNECT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT HOME RATHER THAN THE PUB

MORE people in the North East are looking forward to reconnecting with family and friends at their homes, over visiting the pub, the shops or the office a new study from national car share scheme Co Wheels has found.

61 percent of people surveyed said that they are most excited to reconnect with family and friend’s homes in 2021 with only 24 percent of people looking forward to reconnecting with the pub and under 15 percent wanting to get back to shops and offices.

Richard Falconer, managing director of Co Wheels, said: “Being apart from family, friends and colleagues has been hard for a lot of people over the last year, at Co Wheels are dedicated to making reconnections as easy as possible as we navigate the road map to recovery together. That’s why we’re encouraging people to Reconnect with Co Wheels.

“Making the decision to give up your car doesn’t have to limit where you can travel and who you can see. Car clubs like Co Wheels give you all of the ease of owning a car, with none of the hassle, allowing you to reconnect with family and friends safely and easily this year. Most cars spend around 23 hours per day in a garage, on a driveway or in a car park at work and while public transport is readily available in towns and cities across the country, some time you just need to have the independence of a car. It’s also not 100% reliable. Joining a car club is a cost effective and realistic alternative that you can start using today.”

A fleet of nine new hybrid cars, seven Toyota Yaris and two Toyota Corolla estates, are now available in Harrogate town centre for pay-as-you-go hire around the town for as little as 30-minutes up to full days.

In another first the club is Co Wheels’ only one without fixed parking bays, meaning the cars can be collected and parked all around Harrogate. Each car has its own designated zone and comes with a pass allowing parking anywhere in this area thanks to support from North Yorkshire County Council.

When booking a car, a handy location map on the Co Wheels app or website shows where the nearest one is. Members are then emailed 15-minutes before the hire with the exact location of the car, which is also shown on the location map in the app.

Keys aren’t needed as members are provided with a smartcard to access the car. Members can also book cars in any of Co Wheels’ locations around the UK.

Hires in Harrogate start from as little as £4.75 for one hour. Insurance, cleaning, servicing and refuelling are all included in the cost too. A van is also available for hire as part of the new club.

To protect vehicle users, Co Wheels is carrying out extra measures to ensure the highest level of cleanliness. Every vehicle is professionally cleaned regularly, and all touch surfaces are cleaned with a revolutionary new disinfectant once a month that keeps surfaces germ-free for up to 30 days.
