Co Wheels Expand Fleet of Vehicles across Plymouth
May 28th, 2024
Co Wheels is thrilled to announce the addition of two new vehicles to its fleet in Plymouth, enhancing sustainable and affordable transport options for residents and businesses. The new vehicles, an additional MG4 EV located on Lipson Road and an MG5 EV located on Mayflower Street, are now available for hire from as little as £6.50 per hour.
The introduction of these vehicles aligns with Co Wheels’ mission to reduce car ownership and promote environmentally friendly and cost-effective transportation alternatives across the city. With the addition of two new electric cars, Co Wheels continues to support Plymouth’s commitment to cutting carbon emissions and improving air quality.
“Following a successful launch in Plymouth, Co Wheels is delighted to bring more shared vehicles across the city," said Richard Falconer, Head of Locations at Co Wheels. “We aim to provide flexible, affordable, and sustainable transport solutions, and we believe these additions will greatly benefit the local community. Whether it’s for a quick trip to the shops or a day out exploring beyond Plymouth, our members can now choose from an even wider range of vehicles to suit their needs.”
For many, owning a car can be an unnecessary financial burden. The rising costs of insurance, maintenance, parking, and EV charging add up quickly, often making car ownership an expensive commitment for those who only drive occasionally. By using Co Wheels, members can enjoy the benefits of having a car when they need it without the ongoing costs. Once registered with a valid driving license, members can book vehicles by the hour or day, with prices starting as low as £6.50 per hour. Membership includes access to over 600 vehicles in the Co Wheels network across the UK, providing unparalleled flexibility for both local and long-distance travel.
Richard Falconer continued: “Co Wheels is ideal for those who opt for public transport or active transport for their day-to-day needs but occasionally require the use of a car for larger errands or out-of-town trips.”

The scheme, which will see up to 10 cars in Plymouth over 4 years, launched in March with two MG4s available to hire from the Exchange Street car park on the Barbican by The Stable restaurant, and North Hill car park. Since the launch, there have been over 100 journeys completed totalling over 1300 miles.
Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport said: “This is part of our Connect Plymouth project which is all about providing alternatives to the private car and making it easier for people to make greener choices to get around.
“Not only is an electric vehicle for hire greener, it is cheaper than a car sitting outside homes costing money in MOT, tax, servicing and fuel.”
In addition to serving individual members, Co Wheels also offers tailored packages for businesses, helping them to reduce their fleet costs and environmental impact. By utilising Co Wheels' vehicles, businesses can provide their employees with reliable transport options without the overhead of maintaining a company car fleet
