Seven intrepid members of staff from the Co-wheels are gearing up to attempt the 140 mile long coast to coast bike ride, to raise funds for cancer charity Macmillan.
The team, coming from Co-wheels’ offices across the country, will be leaving from Whitehaven in Cumbria on Friday 17th October, to travel through the Lake District, the Pennines and Weardale to arrive back into Tynemouth 140 miles, and plenty of big hills later. Several of the bikers have yet to cycle for more than 5 miles in one go, and will be on bikes borrowed for the event, making it a real challenge.
The team is raising funds in memory of colleague Mike Berriman, who was intrinsic in the setup of Co-wheels, and who passed away suddenly from cancer last year. Support from Macmillan was vital both for him and his family through the most difficult times. Several other members of the Co-wheels team have been affected by cancer in recent years, and have relied on the services of Macmillan through treatment and recovery. The head office in Durham recently took part in the Macmillan coffee morning, and now the team are burning off the calories while continuing the fundraising.
